If you are expecting the new 5G smartphone on tech world, there’s now a somewhat official answer from Qualcomm and OnePlus. The Officials of both companies at different events have announced their plan to launch 5G enabled SmartPhones. Qualcomm president Cristiano Amon said that based on what his company has visibility to; they are expecting “at least two major flagships” with 5G radio next year. Shortly after Qualcomm announcement OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei joined him on stage and revealed their plan about 5G SmartPhones.
While Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi and other brands are also teasing their own 5G handset tests as well. Motorola is even playing safer by filling Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X50 5G modem into a Moto Mo. But at least all Mod-compatible phones will have the option to upgrade when this comes out early next
Qualcomm
Qualcomm has announced a smaller version of its QTM052 mmWave antenna module, which will be vital to enabling 5G connectivity on conventional smartphone form factors. While comparing to the earlier version, it is 25 % more compact and have ability to connect to 5G Devices.
The Company has also announced that with help from Ericsson, it has recently made a successful over-the-air call from a smartphone form factor test device. Which is powered by a Snapdragon X50, over sub-6 GHz bands using 3GPP Rel-15 spec compliant 5G NR. This 3.5GHz band test follows last month’s mmWave test calls in the 28 and 39GHz spectrum bands, all of which are considered as milestones for prepping the launch of 5G networks.
OnePlus
OnePlus CEO has confirmed about the releasing of 5G devices next year. According to him OnePlus will be one of the first, if not the first, to do so. He has also mentioned that his team had already conducted a 5G test at Qualcomm’s headquarters in San Diego back in August.
Given that OnePlus now exclusively releases flagship SmartPhones, chances are this 5G device will also have top specs. As such, it’s likely the same product due to arrive in 1H 2019 as teased by Amon earlier. Well the things may be rely on the Snapdragon X50 5G modem and the further downsized QTM052 mmWave antenna module. Now the future will tell us, who is going to win this tech or 5G race.
